International Trade Fair and Congress 19 - 21 March 2012
Dear Newsletter Readers,
The Laser Optics Berlin 2012 project team had a very busy and successful year.
We utilized the time intensively to set-up a top-class, combined trade fair consisting of Laser Optics Berlin and microsys berlin.
Your support has been extremely helpful - we would like to thank you for your registrations, concerns, suggestions and advice. We feel that the interim results are quite impressive.
After the end of the “Early Bird” phase, around three months before the trade fair begins, 80% of the exhibition space from 2010 has already been booked. Currently there are over 130 registrations from companies and institutes in the areas of optical technologies and microsystems technology. The better part of our available capacity is reserved - but some stand space can still be booked.
Working together with our partners, we were able to get the professional supporting program off the ground, thereby achieving good pre-conditions for a successful trade fair experience.
The trade fair team wishes you and your families Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Yours truly, Kerstin Kube-Erkens
The focus of the experts’ forums at Laser Optics Berlin 2012 is on special application areas and technologies, for example, the latest trends in communications and microsystems technology.
There are also industry meetings, recruiting forums and advanced training events. For instance, from 10am-5pm on March 19-20, 2012, there is the brokerage event from the Enterprise Europe Network and from 10am-2pm on March 20 the European Optics Cluster Meeting takes place. The complete program will soon be published on the Laser Optics Berlin website. One highlight: Interested parties can apply to take part in the trade visitor program, which is free of charge. It includes participation in the grand opening evening party as well as a visit to Germany’s largest technology park in Berlin-Adlershof or to the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration IZM. The number of participants is limited, so apply early. The application form and details about the trade visitor program can be found online at: www.laser-optics-berlin.de/en/Besucher-Service/TradeVisitorProgramme/.

The accompanying program of Laser Optics Berlin and microsys berlin 2012 is now online. The OSA Optics and Photonics Congress is divided into three individual conferences; all of the congress hosts have now been determined.
The general chairs of the “High Intensity Lasers and High Field Phenomena (HILAS)” conference will be Jon Marangos, from Imperial College in London, UK, and Joachim Ullrich, from the Max-Planck-Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg, Germany. Andrius Baltuska from TU Vienna, Austria, and Jens Biegert from ICFO, Barcelona, Spain will serve as program chairs. Thomas Elsässer of the Max Born Institute in Berlin, Germany, and Majed Chergui of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland are the chairs of the “International Conference on Ultrafast Structural Dynamics (ICUSD)”. Robert Boyd of both the University of Ottawa, Canada, and the University of Rochester, USA, and Alexander Sergienko of Boston University, USA, are the general chairs of the “Quantum Information and Measurement (QIM)” conference. Program chairs are Janos Bergou of CUNY Hunter College, USA, and Saverio Pascazio of the University of Bari, Italy.

The chairman of the microsys berlin congress is Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Lang from the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM) in Berlin. The three congress topics are: “LED Packaging & System Integration“, “Photonic Components and Packaging” and “Optical Measurement Technology”.
The conferences take place on March 20-21, 2012. Congress participants will primarily encounter the following topics: micro-optical integration / photonic integrated circuits / optical measurement technology for characterizing micro-optical systems / high-precision assembly technology / automation / new assembly concepts for micro-laser sources / reliability and tests / MOEMS / LEDs for illumination and sensor technology / optical interconnection technology / fiber-optics. Trade fair passes and registration forms for the microsys berlin congress are available online at: www.laser-optics-berlin.com.

All 7 axes of the semiautomatic selective solder ONYX 29 are motorized. During the development of the device, the Swiss company Zevac AG made a clear point of setting no conceptual boundaries.
The stable machine design features an open hardware and software concept, thus providing an optimal framework. On the one hand, the profile development wizard leads the user safely and efficiently through the creation of the profile. On a deeper level, however, trained key-users can combine all the possibilities of the open and modular software beyond the limits of prefabricated packets. Some of the standard performance features of the ONYX 29 are powerful bottom heating (6000W), top heating (2000W), force measurement from uptake to placement, nitrogen input and cooling during closed loop motion control. In addition, there are options like conductor plate cooling and contact-free solder removal; these also ensure a reliable repair process and, together with the flexible software, easily meet all requirements.
